Developing a sense of humor

I have been so interested lately in listening to Sam and his really awful jokes. He just thinks he is hilarious when he ends everything with "head" or "face." For example:

Sam - "Hey Mom?"
Mom- "What?"
Sam - "You are a carface!" (erupts with laughter)

or . . .

Sam - "Vivian! What's a glooky-head?" (Again with wild laughter)

His jokes even become risque when he ryhmes them with words that are off limits like stupid or hate.

Sam (saying this very under his breath) "Hupid-face."
Mom - "What are you saying back there?"
Sam - "Nothing! I didn't say stupid, I said hupid Mom. So it's o.k. right?"

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We have worked on some good jokes, but they just don't stick with him. The whole "knock, knock" stand-bye is just too advanced.

Mom - "Knock, Knock Sam."
Sam - "Knock, knock."
Mom - "No, you're supposed to say, 'Who's there?'"
Sam - "Oh, who's there?"
Mom - "Ach."
Sam - "What?? That's not funny!"
Mom - "No, when you say, 'Ach-who' and then I say, 'Bless you Sam!' That is the funny part."
(All of this just blows past him.)

The other day when we were driving in the car, he had the following conversation with another 4 year old and I realized just how on the same page 4 year-olds really are.

Sam - "Hey Daniel! Knock, knock."
Daniel - "Who's there?"
Sam - "Spider-head!"
Daniel - "ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Sam you are so funny!"

I guess his stand-up is pretty impressive after all when he targets his audience.

I LOVE and totally appreciate Sam's sense of humor because I feel no pressure to actually THINK when he is telling a joke! It won't make sense no matter what. Remember Sam and Hyrum telling jokes in the car last month? It's fun to hear them crack up, as they confidently share their crazy thoughts. I love the photos of Sam laughing!!!

Oh you are in for it! Taylor is the "Master Joke teller" In fact before going to bed tonight he laid one on us. If Sam is anything like Taylor, which it sounds like it, then this is NOT a phase...at least not a short phase...we are going on years over here with our jokester!

This is such a cute post! Love the 4-year-old humor.
Okay, and Adam does the exact same thing with the word stupid. I'm amazed at how many variants he has under his belt:
stoop
stook
stuss-stuss
stukid
I hope it's just a phase because I can't do anything to stop it. Believe me, I've tried.

I have a 4 year old nephew and I think I had a very similar conversation with him a couple of weeks ago. Life's funnier as a 4 year old I guess.

Sam is a very funny kid!
I had a good chuckle over this post. Humor is indeed very subjective. . . four-year olds often have a tough time figuring out what the adults are laughing about.
Love the laughing pictures!

Aren't four year olds so fun? Very entertaining! Sammy is a cutie. And Kells, I would love to make those booties for you. Just send the word on over when you would like them! Love you! xooxxo
