Last Race of the Season

A few weeks ago Brian and I did the Army 10 miler in downtown D.C. It was 65 degrees out and sunny and such a beautiful day to run a race. There were 26,000 participants who started at the Pentagon, ran around the Lincoln Memorial and Kennedy Center, up the Mall, around the Capitol and back to the Pentagon. Elbow room only! Every 2 miles at the water stations they had army brass quintets or bands playing great music. It was like a giant street party the entire race.

At the end, the subway was also packed full o f sweaty runners. Brian and I waited for a train and got on with 100's of other runners. I overheard a woman (NOT a runner, but just riding the train) say to her husband, "Man, this train stinks!"

We could not take our camera for pictures, but here is a {link} to view our pictures as we crossed the finish line.

Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Children's Series

Sam and I had a wonderful date in Baltimore at the BSO Children's Series this morning. They played children's classics like Hansel and Grettle, Goldilocks and the Three Bears and Sleeping Beauty as the Baltimore School of the Performing Arts danced. They sent us a CD about a month in advance with the narration and music so that by the time the concert came, Sam was singing along with orchestra. It was a great time. We went with our friends the Oswalds - Amy and Madilyn. 4 year old Madilyn is a violinist and we love our red-headed little string players. We now have their first date documented.

Super-Stewarts

Vivian just wants to be exactly like her brother! If he rips his shirt off like the Incredible Hulk, so does she. If he breathes deeply like Darth Vader, she begins to clench her jaw and try to do the same (with considerably more drool). If he dresses up like Superman, she is Supergirl flying through the house. Tonight was fun to watch them play together.

Day out with the Spencers

We visited with the Spencer family in Columbia, Maryland yesterday. It was great to be with these good friends. They moved back recently from Long Island. Hooray!!!
